“Welcome to Cabaret…” sings the Emcee of the Kit Kat Club through painted lips, as the people of 1929 Berlin join him. Cabaret, with music and lyrics by Kander and Ebb, walked away from its Broadway debut with a staggering 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical! Originally directed by Hal Prince, the production was revived on Broadway in 1987 when it packed home another host of Tony Awards. This staggering success on Broadway led to the production of the feature film starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey reprising his role that won him a Tony on Broadway.
